DPF

What is a DPF?

A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is part of a diesel vehicle’s exhaust system. Its job is to capture and store soot particles produced during combustion, helping to reduce harmful emissions.

Over time, the filter fills with soot and must be cleared through a process called regeneration, where the soot is burned away at high temperatures.

If regeneration does not occur successfully, the DPF can become blocked and may require professional cleaning or repair.

Signs Your DPF May Be Blocked

Common symptoms of a blocked DPF include:

  • DPF warning light on the dashboard
  • Reduced engine power or limp mode
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Engine running fan more frequently
  • Strong exhaust smell or visible smoke

DPF Services Available

Garages on Compare Repair offer a range of DPF-related services, including:

  • DPF forced regeneration
  • On-car DPF cleaning
  • DPF diagnostic checks
  • DPF replacement

A garage will normally diagnose the cause of the blockage first before recommending the most appropriate solution.
